Summer League

Summer league is designed to provide a fun way for players to stay active over the summer months while learning and improving their field hockey skills.  It is also a great way for middle school and high school players to work on their skills and improve their game play to prepare for the fall season.

The summer league program consists of age and ability appropriate drills and game play for players in Kindergarten through 12th grades.  A greater emphasis is placed on drills-for-skills for the younger players with increasing emphasis on game play in the upper elementary, middle school and high school levels.

The coaching staff consists of PRFH coaches as well as college and high school players.  With the warm weather, some sessions include spirited water activities involving water balloons, super soakers, and popsicles.  Girls earn High-5 Awards with a corresponding trip to the prize bin.

The format is a group warmup, drills for skills, and small sided games. A weekly curriculum is planned to progress skills over the course of the summer. The basics are reinforced weekly to ensure that the fundamentals are developed properly. High coach involvement ensures a low player-to-coach ratio. Weekly attendance isn’t required to participate in the program and players can miss due to vacations or other commitments.

Middle school players, high school players, and above are invited to stay for full-field 11v11 open play at the end of the evening.  Open play is more competitive game time and a great way to improve by playing up with more experienced field hockey players.

*** All playing levels accepted.  Players will be grouped by age and ability.  Once basic skills are established, girls are integrated with their school peers accordingly.
