Congratulations to Alex Sharer and Elita Marchetti.  Both girls were selected to the 2011 WPIAL Section 1 All-Star team.  In addition they both were selected to the 2011 WPIAL ALL-STAR team.

This is Alex’s 2nd year as a Section 1 All-Star, and 1st year to be selected to the WPIAL All-Star team.

This is Elita’s first year for being selected to both the Section 1 and WPIAL All-Star team.  NOTEE:  Elita is the only sophomore in WPIAL to be selected to either squad. CONGRATULATIONS!

Throughout the season, PR outscored their opponents 39-13 with an average of just under 2 goals per game.  Defense accounted for 8 shutouts and gave up an impressive 0.87 goals per game.

The Rams finished the season with a record of 7-6-2.  The section record of 5-4-1 put them in 3rd place in the tough AAA Section 1 bracket.  Below is the final section standings:

JV Has Another Outstanding Season

JV Rams finished the season in style by beating Fox Chapel 3-0.  The first goal of the game was scored by Jess G with a beautiful drive into the goal after receiving a great lead pass from Alison G at 14.22 in the first half.  With just over 6 minutes remaining in the 1st half, Alison added a goal from a Jess G pass.  A third goal was scored by Sage D in an unassisted play.  Great defense was provided by Kaelin C in goal with the help of a strong backfield.

Throughout the season, PR outscored their opponents 93-4, averaging an amazing 6.6 goals per game.  Defense accounted for 12 shutouts, surrendering only 0.29 goals per game.

The MS team finished the season strong by winning 3 of the last 4 games.  The banquet will be November 3 @ 6PM in the Spirit Room.  Congrats on a great season!

2011 WPIAL FIELD HOCKEY

The Pine-Richland Rams competes in Class AAA of the WPIAL along with eleven other teams.  The top two teams in each section will enter the WPIAL Tournament.  All playoff entries will be determined by section record only and will be determined by the following method:  Three points for a win and one point for a tie.  Ties for first place will not be broken and ALL tied teams will each receive a section winner’s plaque.  In the event of a multiple tie for second, third, or fourth place, head-to-head competition will be used to break the tie.

EXAMPLE:

Team A is clearly first.  Teams B, C, and D are all tied with identical records for second place.  In the head-to-head competition among the three teams, Team B is 3-1, Team C is 2-2, and Team D is 1-3.  Team B is the second place team and is entered into the tournament.

Failure to break the tie by applying the point system will result in applying a point differential system to a plus or minus five to all section games played.  If this procedure does not break the tie, a playoff game will be held.

Duration of the game shall be a maximum of sixty minutes played in two equal halves.  All regular season games ending in a tie will be subject to the following Overtime Procedures:
1.  Prior to the overtime period there shall be a 5-minute intermission
2.  The home team captain calls the coin toss and the winner chooses choice of goal or to take possession of the ball.
3.  Teams will be limited to six field players and a goalkeeper.
4.  If a player was disqualified (red card) during the regulation game,  that tem must play short throughout the overtime.  If a player was suspended (yellow card) the team shall play short until the suspension time is completed.
5.  Only four defenders will be allowed behind the end line on a penalty corner.

The overtime will be 15 minutes “SUDDEN VICTORY”.  Regular season games tied after the 15 minute overtime period are recorded as a tie.  There will be no team time-outs, even if a time has unused time outs.  There will be unlimited substitutions.
